About Phoebe

I grew up in the interior of British Columbia on organic farms, where I learned the satisfaction that comes with working hard toward goals that fit your values. I have also lived in several communities on Vancouver Island, the Nisga’a Nation, Montreal, Japan, and Texas. After expanding my understanding of the world through these experiences, I decided to make the Victoria area my home.

I have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours, with distinction) in psychology and English literature from Okanagan University College (now UBC Okanagan) and a Master of Arts in experimental psychology from McGill University. I completed my Juris Doctor law degree at the University of Victoria.

Before attending law school, I had two other careers. I was a neuroscientist studying the mechanisms of chronic pain, with the goal to discover non-opioid medications to treat pain. My career as a scientist included developing rigorous analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. After returning to British Columbia I worked for Community Living BC for six years, in a variety of roles working with neurodiverse individuals, their families, and the service providers who support them. I learned the importance of every person having a strong voice in their own story and being empowered to make their own decisions. Throughout both of my previous careers, I taught at colleges and universities throughout North America, including teaching the psychology of child development.

When I decided that I wanted to apply my skills to a new field of work, law was the obvious answer. The combination of logical thinking, communication skills, and person-centred values in these previous careers applies well to assisting clients with their legal issues.

In my time away from work I enjoy travel with an emphasis on cultural experiences, gardening, hiking, camping, and enjoying life’s small moments with loved ones.
